Thor’s Day

Thor’s Day

On this simple Thor’s Day, take a few moments to raise your hand to your breast and grasp the Hammer which is very likely hanging about your neck. When you put it on this morning, did you ask yourself why you were putting it on? Did you ponder its significance? Its true purpose?

Mjölnir is more than a mythical weapon used to pummel giants to death. It is the Crusher, the Miller, it is the instrument by which the mightiest of our Gods conducts his holy work. It crushes into dust the unevolved obstructions within ourselves which stand between us and our next spiritual waypoint. It is the resurrector,  the hallower,  and the restorative tool used to bring balance.

So you see, the mighty hammer of Thor is much more than a piece of jewelry that places you in a religious community. In fact, it means much more than that. It is a talisman designed to be lived up to, to rise to. In times of struggle and sorrow it should remind you of the endurance of Thor, and inspire you to stand and to continue. When you face a wall Mjölnir will remove it; when primal, brutish emotions cloud your mind, Mjölnir will be the force that restores clarity; and when your crops thirst for rain, the Hammer will let loose the clouds and shower you with blessings.

Tomorrow, when you put on your hammer, reflect on the true depth of what you are doing. You are bringing with you the very tool of Thor; you are arming yourself for the perils of the world with the mightiest of divine implements and walking into it.

Remember these words… and walk proudly…

May the Gods see you.
